The Queen A Novella Single The selection eBook Kiera Cass
I was highly disappointed with this novella. This book is another volume in "The Selection" series, which has been so popular. It supposedly tells the tale of the Prince Maxon's mother, Amberly, and how she managed to snag Prince Clarkson, who would become King upon his marriage.***Spoilers*** Stop reading now if you don't want to know what happens!
Unlike "The Selection", this doesn't have the charm of America and Maxon's courtship and all the ups and downs they have before they finally tie the knot. It also doesn't portray Clarkson as the abusive beast he turns out to be. This is a guy who beats his son until his whole back is a network of scars, if you remember from "The Selection."
The novella really felt a lot more like an outline of a book to be written, with so little fleshed out. I wanted to know about Amberly's life and family before the selection, and how she felt filling out the application. I also wanted to find out about her feelings upon leaving her family and the farm where she worked, and shy she worked so much harder than her caste should have determined.
This booklet left me with far more questions than it answered, and left me annoyed that I didn't get the rest of the book.

The Queen A Novella Single The selection eBook Kiera Cass Reviews
First off, let me begin by saying that the original trilogy is fantastic, and I will simply add the review I wrote for the series below. Since the novellas were just a fun addition to the series, I’ve rated them more as fluff, rather than the true meat of the story. However, it was certainly fun to read the different POV’s.
As an adult, I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit how much I loved this trilogy; aaahhh, but how I adore beguiling an entire weekend with a captivating series! Although I’m sadly way past my teenage years, I found myself asking a friend, “Team Aspen or Team Maxon?”. Of course, there’s only one true answer to that question, but I’ll let you decide for yourself. Think of this series as Cinderella meets The Bachelor sweet and subdued at its core, fierce and cut-throat behind the scenes, and wickedly alluring.
I’ve rated the three novels based solely on my enjoyment of them, and not on the technical aspects of the writing (which were mildly lacking, in order to appeal to a younger audience). However, what’s life without a few guilty pleasures? And exciting dystopian novels are mine!
The author does a tremendous job with her cliffhangers; once you start, you just can’t stop! The main characters are so irresistible! Initially, I must say, there were just a few too many princess names thrown around to keep track of. Once they were dwindled down, I really got a better idea of their endearing personalities. I must also admit that the first novel didn’t fully engage me until the second quarter, at which point, I literally couldn’t put it down.
I also got a kick out of the author’s acknowledgements at the end. She made the readers feel as if they were old friends, and expressed her gratitude in a witty and hilarious way, “Well, hello there, sassy reader! I hope it made you have unbearable feelings that you find yourself tweeting about at 300 am. That’s what it does to me…”. Dare I admit it, Ms. Cass, you succeeded! Thank you for creating a series that both teens and adults can enjoy, without all of the gratuitous violence that so many of these dystopian authors have resorted to.
So now, I must ask, when do the movies come out?!
I really enjoyed the trilogy of America and Maxon - it was a fun guilty pleasure and engaging story and I wanted to see what happened to the characters as I genuinely cared about their stories. This novella on the other hand just left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Note spoilers ahead!
Although it's no surprise that Clarkson picks Amberly, I was put off as to why. Basically because she was a pushover who did everything he told her to do. He didn't care about her at all and in fact basically admitted to being repulsed by her caste and that she actually had to *GASP* work for a living. He also hates children so was happy with the fact that she (possibly) can't have any. I mean, we know he's a jerk from the other books but would it have been too much to ask that he might have genuine feelings for her and not simply appreciate that she's a doormat that will keep his secrets and "know her place"? Not exactly a resounding role model.
The Queen is a Novella by Keira Cass that is a branch off The Selection series. Before Queen Amberely was royalty she was girl in the selection, scared and in love. Amberely has to overcome her caste, and her illness from the poor environment of home while also; fighting the other girls for the heart of Prince Clarkson.
This is a really interesting perspective. I loved this novella. I have to say that Amberely was very different than I had imagined her to be. Amberely is a tender-hearted, kind, self-conscious young lady who is deeply in love with her prince, who by the way, actually has a soft side. Unlike the way Cass portrayed King Clarkson in The Selection books, he is kind and understanding as a younger man. He is much more likeable in this novella, because in the novel I hate him. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with. His mother is quite a force in this story as well.
My only complaint about this novella is that it is too short. I felt like the ending was abrupt; the story just ended. It was shocking for a moment. I feel like this could have been handled better. Other than that this was an adorable love story in which I greatly enjoyed.
I was highly disappointed with this novella. This book is another volume in "The Selection" series, which has been so popular. It supposedly tells the tale of the Prince Maxon's mother, Amberly, and how she managed to snag Prince Clarkson, who would become King upon his marriage.
