A couple of friends and I took up the Jimmy Fallon book club and I chose this book off of the list. While well written from a first person perspective there is nothing particularly clever or thrilling about the plot. I was expecting some sort of satisfying twist at the end because it felt like nothing was happening throughout the book except to empathize with a killer's mind (I guess?). Maybe the author has written better and this wasn't her best book to read?Tags : Amazon.com: The Good Son: A Novel (9780143131953): You-Jeong Jeong: Books,You-Jeong Jeong,The Good Son: A Novel,Penguin Books,0143131958,Literary,Thrillers - Psychological,Thrillers - Suspense,Chronically ill,Chronically ill;Fiction.,Detective and mystery fiction,Memory,Mothers - Death,Mothers and sons,Mothers and sons;Fiction.,Mothers;Death;Fiction.,Murder,Psychological fiction,Seoul (Korea),Thrillers (Fiction),FICTION Literary,FICTION Mystery & Detective International Mystery & Crime,FICTION Thrillers Psychological,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Fiction,Fiction-Thriller,FictionLiterary,FictionThrillers - Suspense,GENERAL,General Adult,Jimmy Fallon;thriller;psychological;korea;korean;south korea;psychopath;murder;mystery;epileptic;epilepsy;crime;brothers;seoul;unreliable narrator;mind of a killer;adopted son;murder investigation;predator;mental illness;seizures;thrillers;thriller books;suspense books;suspense;psychological thrillers books;literary fiction;psychological thrillers;mysteries and thrillers;betrayal;suspense thriller books;fiction;novels;fiction books;literature;books fiction;psychological thriller books,KOREAN (LANGUAGE) CONTEMPORARY FICTION,Literary,MYSTERY AND SUSPENSE FICTION,Memory,Mothers - Death,Mothers and sons,Mothers and sons;Fiction.,Mothers;Death;Fiction.,Murder,MysterySuspense,Psychological fiction,Seoul (Korea),South Korea,Thrillers (Fiction),Thrillers - Psychological,Thrillers - Suspense,United States, thriller; psychological; korea; korean; south korea; psychopath; murder; mystery; epileptic; epilepsy; crime; brothers; seoul; unreliable narrator; mind of a killer; adopted son; murder investigation; predator; mental illness; seizures; suspense; literary fiction; thrillers; thriller books; Jimmy Fallon; psychological thrillers books; mystery thriller suspense; suspense thriller books; mysteries and thrillers; psychological thriller books; fiction; fiction books; literature; suspense fiction; mystery and thriller,FICTION Literary,FICTION Mystery & Detective International Mystery & Crime,FICTION Thrillers Psychological,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,FictionLiterary,FictionThrillers - Suspense,Fiction,MysterySuspense
The Good Son A Novel YouJeong Jeong Books Reviews
Good book! The first person point of view gives insight into the mind of a phychopath.
This was a fascinating story of psychological pathology that keeps the reader riveted. From one character to the other, it's hard got be sure whose pathology is worse and, of the three son, which is ultimately the good son. Fascinating.
The book held my interest and still has me thinking about it now and then, even a month or two after I read it. It was interesting to read from a psychopath's point of view. However, I much prefer to read happier, less dark stories.
I did not care for this book. It was a book club selection, or I would not have read more than a few pages. Very violent, didn't like staying in one character's head, just too strange for my liking.
Very interesting psychological thriller, kept me going to the very last page
I couldn’t put this book down. I don’t want to give any spoilers, because I want you to be surprised like I was, and maybe scream like I did. I liked it very much, and I recommend reading it.
The author used a random, sudden, brutal murder of an innocent woman as a plot point, necessary to provide a a character's motive, but then the reader was expected to remain suspenseful about IF the murderer was a psychopath or not. A person who commits a random, sudden, brutal murder of an innocent woman is a psychopath in every case and this book should have been 90% shorter because there was no suspense after that.
